What are the goals of the Restored Family Book Club (RFBC)?1. Equip tweens, teens, and young adults to live their lives through the lens of a Biblical worldview, and to be able to provide a defense to anyone who ask them about how they live. 2. Empower parents/guardians to have open and honest discussion with their children and teens on difficult topics through the lens of a Biblical worldview. 3. Encourage members to live out their Christian faith in all areas of their lives.
-
Why should a person choose to join RFBC?RFBC aims to provide a supportive space for conservative Christian values to be discussed. Tweens, teens, and their parents/guardians may experience an improvement in their relationship as they spend more quality time together. Parents/guardians may feel more confident in bringing up challenging topics with their children at any age/stage of development. Parents/guardians may feel more secure in admitting they do not know about a topic, while expressing their willingness to learn with their child, tween, or teen. As a byproduct, parents/guardians also have a great opportunity to help their child, tween, or teen build literacy skills such as comprehension, and critical thinking. RFBC also caters to young adults. Members have the opportunity to grow with their peers in a welcoming environment.
-
What are the books being read, and how are they chosen?"Books will cover topics in Christian Apologetics, cultural issues through a biblical worldview, and Christian character development – all in an age-appropriate manner. The books will be selected annually by the board members and team leaders. Members are invited to submit their picks for consideration for the following year. The current reading material can be found under Meet our Team and Reading List.
-
How will RRFBC serve such a wide audience?RFBC is divided into 5 groups: Champions for Truth, Children of Light, Warriors of Faith, Guardians of Hope, and Ambassadors for Christ. Are tweens/teens allowed to participate without their parents/guardians?RFBC is designed as a tool to strengthen the bond between children, tweens, teens, and their parents. As a result, we ask that parents engage with their child in the book club. Children of Light (11-13 y.o.) and Warriors of Faith (11 - 17y.o.) members are required to have parent/guardian involvement in order to participate. A sponsor may be utilized if the parent/guardian is not available. Their parent/guardian will meet in the Guardians of Hope group. Please note that membership to these groups will be denied if the parent/guardian registration is not completed first. There is no separate meeting for children 0 - 10 years old.
-
Why do parents/guardians need to join as well? One of the goals of RFBC is for parents to be the first voice of reason for their child, tween, or teen regarding developing a Biblical worldview. Unfortunately, some parents struggle to answer important questions their child or teen may have. RFBC's aim is to encourage growth in this area between the parent and child. Furthermore, RFBC team leaders are facilitators, not authority figures in the young person's life.
